Shenandoah CrossFit Holds Sandy Hook Benefit Event

Updated: Sun 11:47 PM, Jan 13, 2013

The local exercise club held an event this weekend to raise money for the Newtown Memorial Fund.

Jessica Gustafson is a coach at Shenandoah CrossFit and helped organize the event.

"I'm really thankful for everyone who did come out and gave their time and money, and even for those who just showed up to support those working out," she said. "It's really nice to have this kind of community support."

She says there were people who regularly exercise there that showed up, but she was most impressed by those who came for the first time this weekend.

"It was rough," says Nate Huntley, a Shenandoah University student and first-time participant. "But it was well worth it. Everyone is so positive here."

Jessica says it's important people don't forget what happened, and this is one way she wanted to help make sure that's the case.

"Even though it's a horrendous tragedy, everyone is upset for about 72 hours, then it kinda goes away cause it's not in your face and it's not here," she says. "People do still care."
