Nationally, AAA reports that gas prices are averaging $3.86 for regular. Locally, they're a little bit less at $3.79. Most drivers will agree that it's painful to fill up.
Drivers at gas stations in Frederick County all say the same thing: every penny counts.
Just in the last week, prices have gone up about ten cents a gallon.
The lowest price in our area is at Costco. While you need a membership, their regular is $3.59.
Sal Mangeri is an independent painter. He was filling up on Route 50 and says it's worth looking around for the best prices. He says you can't afford not to.
He belongs to Costco and also shops at Martin's. Depending on how much you spend, Martin's gives fuel discounts.
"It adds up, it adds up in the long run," said Mangeri. "So I'm fortunate that even though I run a big van, at 10 miles to the gallon, I'm very fortunate that most of my work is local so I only have to fill up maybe once every two weeks."
Mangeri says he's saved .40 cents a gallon last time he used his fuel discount at Martin's.
Some drivers say they've driven to Front Royal where the prices are a few cents cheaper.
Others say that the 20 minutes to get there from Winchester isn't worth saving a few dollars.
