Students at Richard E. Byrd Middle School competed for a national title in the Knowledge Master Open competition on Wednesday.
Nine students worked together to answer 200 questions on topics from math to US history.
This is Richard E. Byrd's sixth time competing in the nationwide competition, hoping to win the number one spot by having the most correct answers.
"I'm hoping that it builds confidence for them and that they know they can attack any goal that they want to set for themselves," said Sarah Mahood, the school's instructor aide.
The students have been practing since last September for the competition, reviewing questions that were asked from previous years.
More than 1,000 schools are competing.
