When it comes to protecting your house from lighting, it can be difficult, but there are a few things you can do.
Winchester Fire Marshal, Jeremy Luttrell, says you can put different lightning rods, and cables on your home so you can channel the energy from the lightning down to the ground, where it wants to go.
He says this isn't always effective but it can be.
"There are some new devices in technology that are available, and it modifies the atmosphere and affects the ions in the air and some things like that. I'm not sure what that stuff costs but I'm sure it's not a cost effective way of preventing lightning striking most people."
He says lightning can cause some serious damage to homes and just turning something off doesn't really help. You need to unplug your electrical devices like TVs, and microwaves.
