A survey from visa found that the average American family spends more than $1,000 on prom season.
It's only February, but many are already thinking about prom and hoping to get a good deal on a dress.
Rachel Robinson graduated from James Wood High in 2011 and remembers all too well how stressful and costly prom was for her family, so she started an online dress site.
Winchester - Frederick County Formal Dress Sale is a Facebook group where girls can buy and sell gently used dresses.
"I realized I have all these dresses hanging around my house that I'm never going to wear again and maybe someone else can benefit from them. Maybe some other girls. Maybe some people that don't have a lot of money. So I started this dress sale site," said Robinson.
She says people post all kinds of dresses at pretty good prices. Most range from $25 to $200, discounted quite a bit from the original price.
