National Night Out is Ready to Keep Families Informed About Safety

The mission is to keep your family safe... and National Night Out will do just that.

They're planning for this event to not only raise awareness, but also help parents be more proactive about crime prevention.

Vendors who were at the meeting today are planning on sharing safety tips that some folks have never heard of.

"It's causing fatalities, it's causing brain damage, these are things we're trying to bring awareness to and a lot of parents may not know. And probably 80 percent to 90 percent of homes in America have this refridgerant in their system," said Ray Bramble.

Bramble is the owner of Air Serv Heating and Air Conditioning. He's talking about the dangers of central AC systems.

"Some teenagers and even some adults are actually huffing what is called the refridgerent that's in your air conditioning system," said Bramble.

He'll be at National Night Out to make homeowners aware of what they can do to stop people from misusing refridgerent gases.

"Lots of new vendors this year... the message is crime prevention, public safety. Everyone is interested in that, making their community safer and sharing their message of safety," said Front Royal Police Department Certifed Crime Prevention Specialist Janice Hart.

Other vendors, like Milt McInturff Jr., are supporting causes like anti-bullying. He owns World Martial Arts Academy in Front Royal.

"It comes down to confidence and it starts at home. It really does," said McInturff.

"We concentrate heavily on children and children's safety. There will be lots of things for children. We have backpacks filled with goodies for kids and we'll have goodie bags for parents as well," said Hart.

These vendors are also parents and they're excited to take part in this event that will teach them unique ways to protect their families.

"With the vendors that are here, with the police department, I can't see any other place we'd want to be to help our children," said Bramble.

"The number one thing you can do to keep your kids safe, to keep them out of trouble... be involved with them. Support them. Stand behind them," said McInturff.

The event is on Tuesday, August 7th from 6 to 9pm and will be at the Gazebo on Main Street.

There's is no admission fee and vendors will be giving out all kinds of free kits and safety prevention guides.
