Murals Painted for Old Town Construction Project

Updated: Sun 11:51 PM, Feb 03, 2013

Local artists created murals to make the construction area on the Old Town Walking Mall more visually appealing.

"I've only been a few times since they've had the barriers up, and I did notice that it was a little plain," says Rachel Smith. "It could use a little jazzing up."

So Smith and fellow artist Abbi Gomez, along with friends and family, painted several murals this weekend to put on panels in the construction zone.

"It's a mess. It's a mess. The sidewalks have stayed pretty clear and everything, but I think this is going to add a lot to it," says Gomez. "It's my hope that this will at least draw more people down to the area to at least look at the art and shop."

The murals will go up sometime in the next week and remain there through the construction process.
