State Police Investigating Fatal Accident

UPDATE:

State police are investigating a fatal accident that happened at mile marker four on Interstate 66.

The crash happened just before 7 PM, Tuesday.

Additional accidents happened on Interstate 81.

State police say the first happened around 2:40 Tuesday afternoon at mile marker 298.5 on I-81 southbound.

This caused traffic to back up in both southbound lanes on 81.

At 2:45 PM, state police say two tractor trailers slowed for the traffic in both the right and left hand lanes.

They were struck by a third tractor trailer heading south.

The accident forced that third truck into a bridge and caused $50,000 in damage to the structure, according to VDOT.

The truck was driven by 26-year-old Fancisco J. Cerda-Vautista from McLaren, Texas and was taken to Shenandoah Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

Check back for additional updates.
