Lord Fairfax Community College Accomplishing Goals

Lord Fairfax Community College has been ranked as the fastest growing community college in Virginia. The ranking came after nearly 7,000 students enrolled around this time last year.

"You get to talk to your teachers more, and have more of a one-on-one," said freshman Ashley Miller. She says that access between students and teachers is one of the goals LFCC is accomplishing as the school continues to grow.

Something else they think about .... Even as more and more students attend, the school is faced with making sure it stays affordable.

"We are the college of the community and most of our graduates stay here after completing Lord Fairfax," said Liv Heggoy, director of development at LFCC. "It's so important to keep college affordable so that they can begin their career with as little debt as possible," said Liv.

"About every semester, for 14 credits, it's about 15 hundred dollars, so that's pretty good," said Ashley. "I got some scholarships to go here too."

Ashley says that influenced her decision to attend Lord Fairfax. Last year, the school gave out nearly $200,000 in scholarship money.

Here's what the school has planned...

-Submitting grants for $400,000 to spend on school resources
-Launching a brand new website and enhancing its social media presence
-Improving the campus to become more green, all while building a new student union.

"The fact that a community college is building a student union says so much about our commitment to making the student experience really robust here on campus," said Liv.

The president of Lord Fairfax says, as long as the school is accomplishing its goals, the more students it can help reach their academic and career goals.
