In Warren County, we've learned about many organizations like the Warren Coalition and the Sheriff's Office that help teens with things like bullying and depression.

Now, a local teen is stepping up and raising awareness about depression and teen suicide.

"I did have a friend who was depressed, she was cutting herself, she did send me a suicide note to me via text message one year," Denise LoPreto says.

Because Denise LoPreto made a call, her friend is alive today.

"I felt like I could have done more," she adds.

Denise is a senior at Warren County High School. That scary text message came to her phone just a few years ago.

And since then, she's been doing projects to help raise awareness about teen depression and suicide.

"About half the people diagnosed with depression will attempt suicide and more than seven percent of those people will actually succeed. When you're clinically diagnosed with depression you're three times more likely to attempt suicide. I just couldn't figure out why no one was broadcasting this as much as it should've been

Thursday she spoke to the Warren Coalition, a local non-profit that helps teens in the community and she wanted them to know from a teen's perspective just how serious this issue is right in our high schools. Denise titled her talk, 'Invisible.'

"It's high school. It's hell in a hand basket. If I'm just going to go to school every day and hear the same crap and smack from people saying I'm not worth it, maybe I'm not," she adds.

Denise hopes that her peers hearing from someone who's seen it first hand, will in turn give them hope.

"There's always someone out there that really wants you to keep going and pushing forward and be the best you can. You are not invisible," she says.

Thursday was the first time Denise has given this talk.

It's part of her Girl Scout gold award.

She will also present it to the students at Warren County High School in April.
