One local student is being rewarded for her hard work.
Her name is Ashley McManus, and she's a senior at Randolph Macon Academy.
Out of 41 schools, she has the honor of winning the General Willard Scott Award.
It's given to a student who shows love of God, love of country, and serves others.
Ashley is a member of many clubs at the school, and she said she works hard every day.
In fact, she's maintained a 4.0, takes a number of AP and honors courses while still finding the time to be involved with cross country, basketball, and soccer.
"It's really crazy to think that out of so many people, that I was chosen to win this. It feels really good to have some recognition for all of the hard work that I put into everything I can," said Ashley McMmanus.
She plans on heading to Virginia Military Institute in July of 2013. She's received an AFROTC scholarship to earn her degree in electrical engineering and a commission in the U.S. Air force.
She said her parents couldn't be more proud of her. She will officially except her award on February 26th.
