Local Humane Society Raises Money Through Recycling

Updated: Tue 4:25 AM, Feb 19, 2013

The Warren County Humane Society needs to raise $200,000 every year just to stay open.

Leaders are finding some creative ways to raise that money.

Along with some large events and in-house fundraisers, they do a lot of recycling.

Not only do they have a paper recycling bin that they can make some money from, but you can recycle your old cell phone in their lobby.

The director said it's one more way to help the environment and save the animals.

"We don't have any major large donors. We really have to raise $200,000, $20 and $60 at a time. We're just constantly busy thinking of new ways," said Lavenda Denney.

She said the humane society averages between $100 and $150 a month through the paper recycling. They haven't had any cell phones collected yet so they're waiting to see how much they can make.
