Local Counties To Receive Virginia Disaster Funding

Posted: Fri 5:37 PM, Jul 27, 2012

The City of Winchester and Frederick, Warren, Clarke and Shenandoah counties are getting a belated boost for local recovery efforts.

President Obama signed a disaster declaration Friday for Virginia that will bring federal funding to local governments hit hard by storms June 29 through July 1.

Declarations are often made quickly after disasters happen.

But the federal emergency management agency says they can be made later, after further damage assessments.

Storms that ripped through the mid-atlantic on June 29th killed dozens and left millions without power at one point.
