The weather couldn't have been more perfect for the unveiling of where a Korean War memorial will soon stand.
For the past three years, the Shenandoah Valley Chapter 313 of the Korean War Veterans Association has been raising money to build a memorial in Jim Barnett Park. As of Thursday, they're more than half way to their fund raising goal of $100,000.
"The Korean War has been known as the forgotten war, but North Korea attacked South Korea on June 25th 1950," said Korean War Veteran Association Shenandoah Valley Chapter 313 Commander Chuck Bachman. "They wanted to take over the whole peninsula of Korea and United Nations decided that they weren't going to let that happen."
The plan is to break ground this winter and to have the memorial finished by July 20, 2013, which is the 60th anniversary of when the armistice was signed.
