If you're heading to the grocery store this weekend, we have some healthy shopping tips for you.
Sometimes, it's hard to stick to our shopping lists. Between sales and impulse buys, everything add up.
So to make sure what you're putting in your cart is healthy and on your list, never shop on an empty stomach. You'll end up buying more than you need and probably strolling down the snack and chip aisle too.
Speaking of aisles, registered dietitian Susan Lessar, has some advice about what aisles we should get most of our food from.
"We normally recommend that you shop on the outside of the grocery store. That's where your fruits, vegetables, lean proteins and dairy products are. However, there are, in the outside of the grocery store, there are some prepackaged meals," said Lessar.
And those prepackaged meals are what you want to avoid. They're usually higher in sodium... like packaged lunch meat.
Your foods will be fresher if you shop on the outside aisles and you'll probably end up cooking more, which is also healthier.
