The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office confirms one person is dead after an accident involving a tractor trailer on Interstate 81 northbound early Tuesday morning.

Investigating officers say it was a two vehicle collision involving a tractor trailer and 2005 Ford Explorer at the 5 mile marker northbound I-81.

When officers arrived on the scene, both vehicles were fully engulfed in flames.

The driver of the Ford Explorer was trapped inside the vehicle while the driver of the tractor trailer and his passenger made it out of their vehicle.

The identity of the driver of the Ford Explorer has not been released pending confirmation and notification of next of kin.

Preliminary investigations and statements from witnesses suggest the driver of the Ford Explorer was traveling southbound in the northbound left lane on I-81 when the driver collided with the tractor trailer.
