Hazmat crews are working to clean up a leak at the water treatment plant in Strasburg.

Shenandoah County Fire and Rescue told us about 200 gallons of a caustic soda had leaked in the facility. This kind of material is corrosive.

Hazmat teams from the Winchester and Frederick County area have the spill contained to a 1,200 gallon concrete reservoir, but as of Monday afternoon, there was still an active leak.

One patient was able to drive themselves to the hospital for treatment before crews responded. At this point, there is no danger to the public.
