RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- A major component of Gov. Bob McDonnell's education reform package is on a House committee's agenda.
The Education Committee is scheduled to consider legislation Wednesday that would direct the state Department of Education to develop a system of grading public schools on an A to F scale. Also making its way through the legislature is McDonnell's plan to revamp teacher evaluation and grievance procedures.
The House committee also will consider bills to require so-called "resource officers" in every school and to allow schools to open before Labor Day without getting permission from the Department of Education.
