Niles Underwood Comer is charged with two misdemeanor counts of embezzlement.
The former director of CLEAN, a non profit group based in Winchester is accused of using the organization's credit card in Shenandoah County on June 14Th.
He was released on recognizance - which means anything from good behavior or no prior conviction.
Comer appeared in Shenandoah County General District Court on Tuesday where he requested a court appointed lawyer.
His court date is set for October first
