MORE INFO: Dog Severely Neglected Saved in Winchester

"He's got to learn to trust people," said Rebecca Miller.

Rebecca Miller is the owner of Posh Pets Boutique. She says she got an e-mail from Shirley's Angels Boxer Rescue with a list of animals that were going to be euthanized in North Carolina. Rodney was on that list, and you can see why.

"One of the pictures was of Rodney severely matted," said Miller. "It was this horrible horrible picture and just hair overgrown. She said would you like to foster, and I was like yes."

Miller says when she saw him in person, she was shocked.

"He was like a little skeleton so I can't believe he is alive," said Miller. "He was probably days before dying."

Miller has only had Rodney for a couple of days. Those days have changed his life. She says he's eating and going to the bathroom. He's been groomed and his fleas are gone.

"Now that we've shaved around all the hair," said Miller. "We're like wow. I don't think anyone was even feeding this dog."

Besides the obvious neglect, Miller says they know very little about Rodney. She says they think he's at least ten years old, and he might be a Pekingese.

"So people want to know how to help," said Miller. "There's things they can do. They can foster, volunteer, donate. Anybody can help."

It's something no one wants to see. A dog so badly neglected it no longer looks like a dog.

This is Rodney and two days ago Posh Pets brought him all the way from North Carolina up to Winchester. Rebecca Miller with Post Pets says he was days away from dying when they rescued him.

"All we know is that he was brought into a North Carolina shelter looking like that horrible picture," said Owner of Posh Pets Boutique Rebecca Miller. "The matted mess. Basically, that's all we were told. I didn't think twice. It was such a horrible picture, and I even asked my husband because my poor husband has to deal with me rescuing these animals, but he even agreed that this animal needed help and he just deserved a second chance rather than be euthanized right away."

Miller says animal abuse happens everywhere, but you normally do not see animals this badly neglected in our area. She says there are stricter laws that prevent this from happening.

If you're interested in adopting Rodney, you can contact her at Posh Pets Boutique at 540-722-7213.
