The city of Winchester has plans to improve a busy road this summer.
Work is being done to improve Indian Alley between Cork and Piccadilly streets.
It’ll start below ground, where a full replacement of all utilities will take place
When that's completed, work will be done above ground, like repaving the road and adding some sidewalks.
The city held an open house Thursday evening to show interested business owners and residents the plans.
Construction is supposed to begin in early July and be done by the end of the summer.
Public Services Director Perry Eisenach says, in the long run, the area will be much better off after the project is done.
"We want people to look forward to the end and realize that it's gonna be worth the inconvenience for two months to see the end product. That's what we want to have happen," says Eisenach.
The inconvenience he speaks of is traffic closures for residents in the alley.
There are also businesses like One Block West that have only one entrance, through the alley, and he says they'll work closely with those business owners.
Folks from the city commended the patience from residents in advance of the construction.
They say what will be an inconvenience this summer will be a benefit in the long run.
Indian Alley will look better and be safer for residents.
