Capital One to Open Data Center in Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Capital One Financial Corp. is planning to open a new data center in Chesterfield County, creating at least 50 jobs.

Gov. Bob McDonnell said Wednesday that the McLean, Va.-based company plans to invest more than $150 million for the facility. The governor says the data center is part of the company's core information technology infrastructure that incorporates new technologies to better meet customer needs.

Capital One employs more than 14,000 associates in Virginia.

McDonnell approved a $500,000 grant from the Governor's Opportunity Fund to assist with the project. The company also will be eligible for a sales tax exemption on certain data center computer equipment as a result of legislation passed in 2009 by the General Assembly.
