A special event is coming to Winchester to make healthcare the best it can be in your community.

It's the product of a partnership between AirCare 4 and Valley Health System.

Organizers call it a one of a kind conference for healthcare providers like nurses, doctors and EMTs. The idea is to bring all disciplines into one place to learn about new trends in an industry that saves lives.

AirCare 4 flight paramedic Hugh Cline says, "To have everybody come together in one place and learn and then be able to take those tools out, so to speak, to the streets and apply those to the patients that we see, not only benefits us as providers but certainly benefits the patients.

Cline and the rest of the crew here deal with all kinds of injuries when they go out on a call.

He says, "Even though we see really different types of injuries, Chris is coming in to highlight a topic that is really hot on the press so to speak."

Cline is talking about keynote speaker Chris Nowinski, who became a tireless advocate and educator after concussions stole his career.

Nowinski tells TV3, "When I was wrestling for WWE and got a concussion that caused major symptoms for weeks that I blew off and kept working out and kept wrestling because I thought you were supposed to tough your way through a concussion."

Nowinski says the way athletes are trained, taught and treated needs to change and getting everyone up to speed on the latest research is key.

He tells TV3, "It really is one of those injuries that takes a village. Everybody needs to understand what these young athletes are going through from their parents to their teachers to their coaches to the medical professionals who are treating them to friends and family."

Athletic directors and coaches are also invited to attend the conference.

If you're interested, you can email Hugh Cline to learn more at hcline@phihelico.com or call the AirCare 4 base at 540-667-0288.
