Today the Winchester department of public works removed a hazardous tree along Braddock street and they used stimulus money to pay for it.

The city was awarded a $10,000 grant through the Department of Forestry and a portion of it is going towards this tree.

Officials say this money is stimulating the local economy because the city hires private contractors for these types of projects.

They say local small businesses can use all the help they can get during this difficult recession.

Winchester Arborist Tim Stern says,"Its kind of a win win situation. The tree itself is one that is already on the approved removal list, so it was going to come down anyway. We just got federal funds to pay for it."

Officials say the local tree trimming business has been slow recently and they are happy to help them out.
