A wreath laying ceremony was organized by the Winchester Composite Squadron.
During the first year of the ceremony only a handful of wreathes were laid, but on Saturday that number rose to more than 90.
Captain Chris Colvin says this is a chance to recognize veterans that have given their life for this country.
Colvin adds that it is also for families because family members feel the loss every day.
"I was just actually just speaking to a young lady from Winchester whose son was just killed in Iraq," explains Colvin. "Her son is actually buried over in Arlington but because Arlington is such a vast ceremony, she did not feel that she could get close enough to her son. So she gets to come to Winchester to a national cemetery where she can lay her wreath in memory of her son and feel that closeness, that connection with him, that's just so important," adds Colvin.
The wreath laying ceremony is held every December and Captain Colvin hopes the ceremony continues to grow each year.
"History comes to life for them [kids]," adds Colvin. "They get to meet the veterans, they get to meet the folks who lived through the wars, through the conflicts, they get to hear the accounts, they get to meet the people that I call real American heroes, and have that personal interaction with them on a one-to-one basis and there's nothing that could replace that," says Colvin.

I attended this ceremony and it was a very uplifting and beautiful event. To see all the gravestones adorned with Christmas wreath's that were donated by our Winchester community was a lovely site. Thanks to all those cadets and staff who organized this Christmas memorial for all of our fallen military.
I would like to thank Capt. Colvin and the Cadats from the Civil Air Patrol for the beautiful ceremony that held this past Saturday at the Winchester National Cemetery and those people and groups that sponsored a wreath in honor of our fallen hero's
