Lacey Rollins and Raul Hasbun knew they wanted to set up a forum for student discussion- a way for classmates to talk about current events and topics important to their lives.
After some trial and error, they came up with 'Fridays at 11,' a roundtable talk that runs about five minutes long and aims at engaging the student body.
"[We want] to get them informed and have them thinking," said Hasbun, a co-executive producer. "That's the important thing, have them thinking about what's going on."
The two take turns moderating the talks, which are hosted in the Armstrong Building on campus.
They usually include about five SU students.
The show uses fast-paced angles and zooms to keep things fresh and interesting.
'Fridays at 11' will air on Winchester Community Television, but the show is produced for the web, where you can watch it from home on YouTube.
"We decided to put it on YouTube because this is a new platform, this is the new way people look at television," said producer Paulette Moore. "The old ways of broadcast- News at 11- are definitely valid, and that's where you get your content, but people also sit at their computers, and they watch YouTube a lot."
Rollins and Hasbun usually end up with about 30 minutes of actual footage, which they then edit and condense into the five minute finished product- a difficult task.
"It's 30 minutes of a lot of back-and-forth, back-and-forth, and it's really hard to cut out and not leave out important points or really amazing things the students have said," noted Hasbun.
With the school year almost over, there are no more shows planned this spring, but a weekly broadcast will be on tap next fall.
