MARTINSBURG, W.Va. (AP) -- West Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal accident involving a car and school bus on Interstate 81 in the Eastern Panhandle.

Media outlets say the crash occurred early Wednesday morning near the Tabler Station Road exit.

State Police say the driver of the car died, but they didn't immediately identify the victim.

Thirty-seven students were aboard the bus.

Teresa McCabe of City Hospital in Martinsburg says six were taken by ambulance to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. She says all were evaluated, and their parents were notified.

Berkeley County schools spokeswoman Leah Daniel says the other 31 students were taken to Musselman Middle and High schools after the crash.

She says the bus was traveling south when the car crossed the median and struck it head-on.
