Governor Kaine announced Thursday that NW Works, an organization that provides vocational training for those with disabilities, will be getting one million stimulus dollars.

The grant-recovery funds will go towards the construction of a larger and more efficient facility.

"Each of these components will be staffed by people with disabilities, resulting in a total of 80 new jobs and 68 temporary construction jobs right here at NW Works," says Kaine.

The money is part of a package of announcements that deals with an economic recovery.

NW Works was chosen because it is shovel ready. Governor Kaine says it is a project that will have a social benefit and will also create jobs.

"NW Works also rose to the top of the list because of the extent of private dollars that had already been pledged towards this project," explains Kaine. "So the fact that this was going to leverage some additional private investment, was something that really recommended this project very highly," adds Kaine.

NW Works CEO John Brauer says the one million dollars will help create services for people with Autism and an environment for them to succeed.

"We are going to be able to serve a lot more people, and more with severe disabilities," says Brauer. "We are really excited about that as well, just to have the ability to reach out to the community in a broader way and this one million dollars is the difference between it happening and not happening," adds Brauer.

Brauer adds that while it is an honor to be receiving the one million dollars, to have Governor Kaine here to make the special presentation in person, is like an icing on the cake.

Earlier Thursday Governor Kaine announced 1,200 new jobs will come to Fairfax as a corporate headquarters will be moving there. Along with NW Works' future positions, a total of 2,200 jobs have been announced by the governor's office.
