The school's superintendent's budget proposal is asking for nearly $5 million to increase the salary of all Frederick County Public School division's staff.
The salary increase would include the governor's 2% raise for teachers, guidance counselors, librarians, principals, and instructional aides. Jerry Kyer says the school division deserves it.
"I think that the teachers should get an increase because I believe the kids are our future and I believe they deserve to make a decent living," he said.
Dr. Sovine would like to give an additional raise to staff who have at least one year of experience with the school system.
Frederick County Public School workers have not received an effective salary raise since July 2008.
