Winchester's most notable weathervane is back in the city and it's on display for you to see.
The "Old Jake" display opened today at the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley. The historic 6-foot tall weathervane is on loan by the Rouss Fire Company after he was taken off the auction block when his sale didn't meet the minimum bid of more than $2-million.
According to the history of "Old Jake" printed near the weathervane, He got his name after a former member of the fire house thought it was his friend -- who's name was Jake -- was standing on the roof.
"Old Jake" was first shown in a photograph in 1860, where he stood atop the Union Fire Company.
