Shoppers beware! A scam circulating around may be digging deep into your pocket. False advertising for Wal-Mart is reaching the homes of many in your community.
SECRET SHOPPER SCAM: Here's how the scam works; you get a letter asking you to be a "secret Wal-Mart shopper." The letter comes with a check written out to you. You are instructed to deposit the check and then call the number listed and give them your bank account information.
In the end, the check turns out to be bogus and not only do you walk away empty handed, but you have comprised your identity and bank information.
Kristen Carroll of Stephen City knew this was a possible scam and explains how terrifying this can be if one becomes a victim.
"It's very unnerving...I don't see how they can even track people down like that. You know what I mean. I don't understand why they would do that...I guess they are money hungry. It happens to a lot of people," explains Carroll.
If you feel you may be a victim of this scam or others like it, contact local authorities.
