Local business leaders slowed down for lunch Thursday afternoon -- only to go fast forward.

The Fast Forward Luncheon was at the Sprint Tent on the Winchester Medical Center Campus. It was the third year for the Apple Blossom event.

This year the sponsors, Valley Health and the Top of Virginia Regional Chamber of Commerce, chose James G.S. Clawson to speak. Clawson is a business professor at the University of Virginia, as well as the author of 17 books.

His topic was "Rock Solid Leadership in Turbulent Times."

"Whenever a business person, or a politician, or a religious leader, or a new budding MBA starts talking about 'what can I get out of society' the red flags go up for me," said Clawson. "What we ought to be paying attention to is what are you building for the next generation, what is your legacy going to be."

"It was an uplifting message, a timely message. And he comes with a lot of credentials and knows a lot about the business community and the economy. He came very highly recommended," said Randy Collins, president and CEO of the Top of Virginia Regional Chamber of Commerce.

"It's a wonderful nugget of education but it's also a relaxed atmosphere, great networking and a nice kind of last business event before the festival really kicks off with more of a party atmosphere," Dena Kent, of Valley Health, said.
