Getting Ready To Ride 1,800 Miles

Tammy Shoremount will be riding a four year old Rocky Mountain horse named Rocky across the country.
"You take your trailer to the next campsite, get everything set up, then you get shuttled back to where your horse is and then you start the ride out for the day," explains Shoremount.
Husband Paul Shoremount is originally from New Jersey. The life-style is a little different than his childhood, but it is one that he has fallen in love with.
"Once you get involved in it, you realize how many small, little details that you have to get ready and get everything lined up so that when the time comes, everything will go smoothly," says Mr. Shoremount.
Tammy and Freda will be traveling more than 1700 miles, totaling more than 5 months being on their horse. It sounds like a long trip, but their experience with the Blue Ridge Hospice it is plenty of motivation.
"My mother was in hospice and it wasn't only the medical care that she received that I was so appreciative of, but the emotional support that I got through the process of her illness and after wards," explains Freda Jackson who is riding along with Tammy. "It was very important to me and it helped me through some very rough times."
The women encourage the public to sponsor them at an amount per mile or make any kind of donation. All of the money will go to help hospice patients one way or another.
Tammy and Rocky will be at the Woodstock Horse Schooling Show for first time riders this weekend (April 4-5) held at the Shenandoah County Fairgrounds.
The two women will be leaving on April 12 for the Ride of a Lifetime.
