A group of women are reaching out to single mothers to let them know they can raise their child, and go to school too.
Their called Empowering Minds, Empowering Moms. They're a group made up of single moms at Shenandoah University. Thursday night, they met at Lord Fairfax Community College to talk with women to let them know they can do it too, and that they're not alone.
"It's been a long road, but honestly, I would not change a second of it," S.U. Student, and single mom of a 5-year old daughter, Michelle Vilandry said. "It opens so many different opportunities, and it gives you chances at things you thought you'd never have a chance to do."
The group is funded by a grant that Shenandoah University received from the American Association of University Women.
Many of the women at the meeting say finding affordable child care is their main issue.
Shenandoah University has a daycare on campus, while Lord Fairfax Community College does not.
Sunday, Empowering Minds, Empowering Moms will be holding a family fun day at Shenandoah University Student Center from 2-4p.m. The event is open to the community although it's geared to single parents, allowing them the chance to get out, meet other single parents and have a fun afternoon.
