He started out like millions of other teenagers, just playing the guitar and listening to the radio. Now, Ron McFarlane, a Shenandoah Univ. graduate is a Grammy nominated lute player.

His path to success started with a love of classical music, and the lute is a better instrument to use when playing music that has a 300 year old sound.

McFarlane didn't experience his recent success until he started writing music of his own. His new album "Indigo Road" will be officially released next week. "After playing I really yearned to write some of my own muic, like the lute players of the past, I would take all the influences I would write my own music and play my own music side by side with the old music and it really shows that the lute is a tremendous and expressive instrument," says McFarlane.

The Grammys are scheduled for February 8th.
