Well the Negley Award has been around for more than a decade and every year hundreds apply. The annual award is given to provider organizations that demonstrate excellence in risk management practices. This year, the number one, Presidents Award, goes to Grafton.
The official award is for best practices in risk management and the behavioral health care industry. The staff at Grafton applied for the Negley Award with a paper entitled, The Minimization of Restraint Initiative. The paper describes a successful process to use little restraint as possible when managing dangerous situations.
Jim Gaynor/Grafton School CEO: "We saw employee moral go way up, real pride of ownership. Then with this recognition everybody feels this sense of pride of ownership which is very well justified so it's just a really nice story about finding the sweet spot and doing the right thing and then watching how the ripple effects really make an impact."

Senator Vogel commented on why Grafton was this year's Presidential winner saying their employees innovative approach and dedication to provide clients with the best possible treatment and care.

In addition to getting the President's Award Grafton also gets a 15,000 dollar prize. The only drawback is they cannot apply for another two years.
