Winchester is adding another park but this one, is dogs only, and their owners.
WINCHESTER, VA
Construction on a new dog park began Wednesday morning in Jim Barnett Park. Just over one acre of land will be cleared for the dogs to get away from their leash and meet others.
The outer perimeter of the park will feature a six-foot tall linked fence, and an additional inner pen for unleashed dogs.
Owners must bring their own water for their pets but future plans are already brewing concerning provided water, and a separate park just for the small dogs.

Becki Oliver/Dog Park Chairperson: "It's widely known that a well-exercised dog will be happier and healthier. It's a great place for dog owners to socialize as well as the dogs. And it's just nice because the city of Winchester, you know, there are over 550 dogs so it's a great place for people to come to the park, drop their dogs off their leash."

A Pooch Pass for Winchester residents will cost 18 dollars per year and 24 for non-residents. If your dog wants his or her own party, rental fees include a four hour session for fifty and sixty dollars depending on your residency. The parks tentative opening date is October first, but make sure you have your dog's registration and current vaccine records.

For more information about the dog park or purchasing memberships call the Winchester Parks and Recreation at 662-4946.
