The rainy weather on Wednesday made some outside activities a washout. At the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley, what was supposed to be an outdoor specialty garden tour, was held inside.
It turned into a lecture focusing on insects -- both good and bad -- that are found in the MSV gardens. The presentation included information on eco-friendly methods for attracting and deterring different types of garden insects.
"There's about 600-thousand insects in the world, and of that, maybe one percent are problem insects, and more than that are beneficial, and then there's a lot that don't really affect us at all. But they're all really interesting, and they're fun to see in the gardens, and they're just neat things to look at," says Mary Stickley, MSV Gardens and Grounds Manager.
The next specialty garden tour will be on water-wise gardening. That's on August 13th at 6:00 p.m. at the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley. It will include information on drought tolerant plants. The tour will also cover how to garden without using a lot of water.
