Senior citizens gathered early Tuesday at the United Methodist Church for coffee and a light breakfast, but were treated to something special. The Flower Center brought gifts to the seniors as part of Make Someone Smile Week.
Libby Fravel/Owner Manager "The containers were donated by Teleflora and the flowers were donated by a Wholesaler Crate Wholesale and Washington County Pennsylvania and then we put the flowers together and delivered them up here to the senior center."
The donation was the weeks largest, delivering more than forty flowers to both seniors at the center and those that are home bound.
Melanie Jackson/ Senior Center Director: "Which I thought was great because our home bound clients don't get out a whole lot and you know really it will really make their day these are people who don't have a lot of money and you know some of them don't even have any family so you know for them to have things given to them that are that beautiful and wonderful mean so much to them"
The Teleflora Network out of Los Angeles donated around 100 be happy mugs and a flower supplier out of PA donated all of this week's flowers.
Marie Schanholtzer/Senior Center Cook: "Well I think it was awful nice of the flower shop to do this and and I think everyone out here appreciated them very much they put a smile on every-body's face."
Last year's program spanned 270 cities throughout the United States and Canada and involved five-thousand florists and the delivery of 38,000 bouquets.
