A long time Frederick County family celebrated a very special occasion on Saturday 100-years of farming.
Friends, family members, loyal customers, and even first time visitors gathered at the pavilion outside of the Marker-Miller Farm Market on Saturday afternoon.
They shared cake, and their appreciation for this family, who has worked tirelessly over the years to build their family business.
John Marker talked with the crowd surrounded by his children and grandchildren- who represent the sixth generation of the Marker-Miller family on the farm.
Delegate Beverly Sherwood presented them with a Century Farm Award and recognition from the State of Virginia.
"This recognition comes, quite frankly, as a big honor because we are losing our farms, not only in the Commonwealth, but across the United States, and we need to recognize those that are still in existence, and have been for a long time, and are doing it successfully," said Sherwood.
So how does john marker feel about the 100-year milestone?
"I was really excited too, until I stopped and thought that of the hundred years we have been here, I have been here sixty-one of them, so you know, maybe it's not as long as I thought," joked John Marker.
The Marker-Miller Orchards and Farm Market is located on Cedar Creek Grade in Frederick County.
