Reiki is a Japanese technique used for stress reduction and
relaxation and it is believed to promote healing.
Reiki practitioners believe that an unseen energy flows through us, and is the very thing that keeps us alive.
If that energy is not flowing properly, we are likely to get sick or feel stress.
It is administered by a "laying on of hands."
Reiki master teacher Sophia Pettett initially got involved to help with her own healing.
"I was really struggling with a couple of different autoimmune issues and having a lot of trouble staying on top of pain in a way that didn't leave me fuzzy from medications," said Sophia. " When Reiki came into my life, I was able to use certain breathing techniques and do self treatment, and that has allowed me to manage my pain issues and really move forward in my life."
Grace Friel, also a master teacher, says that Reiki really is for everyone, no matter what their age.
"Students and patients say they haven't been this relaxed in years, and that includes someone in their teens right on up to somebody in their eighties," said Grace.
Nathan Cravener, a participant in the Reiki sessions, agrees.
"It's Friday night. I have already worked my forty hours and I'm kind of tired, and I have a two-year-old son, and I was debating if I would have a calm enough mind to come here and help, but after the two hours was up, I was totally grounded and my heart was calm and I felt actually refreshed," commented Nathan.
Both Sophia and Grace are grateful to be able to share Reiki with others.
"Anyone can do Reiki, and that has been one of the most exciting things for us- to experience through our students the joy of being able to connect with another human being and to help them be empowered in their own healing path," said Sophia.
