With gas prices so high, why not just stay at home and vacation here?
It's not an outlandish idea. Tourists from all over the world come to the Shenandoah Valley on vacation.
"Patsy Cline," said Natalie Wills of the Winchester-Frederick County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
"They want to go see where she's buried and drive by her house on Kent Street. But we also get visitors for Civil War as well. That's one of the leading draws. The fact that we were so back and forth during the Civil War, that's an interesting draw to people."
In an effort to save you money, we've put together some local vacation packages.
Travel Package #1: For the Family
There's a ton of things for families to do locally.
Consider Fun Expedition, an indoor amuseument center. How about the Family Drive-In, a nostalgic drive-in music theater.
Be sure to check out the Discovery Museum, the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley, and historic sites like Belle Grove.
There are also a lot of fun events like Winchester Royals baseball games and the Frederick County Fair to ensure fun all summer long.
Travel Package #2: For the Couple
There are several romantic bed and breakfasts and hotels in the valley.
You can enjoy a scenic wine-tasting at Veramar Vineyards.
Take a romantic stroll through the gardens at Glen Burnie, and unwind for the night over a candlelit dinner at one of our fine dining establishments. Also be sure to take in a great show at Wayside Theater.
Other fun things to do in the area include exploring our Civil War heritage and Skyline Drive.
The Winchester-Frederick County Convention and Visitors Bureau is promoting "staycations" on Saturday.
From 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. you can come out to the new visitor's center off of Pleasant Valley Road for a chance to win prize tickets to Shenandoah Caverns...Wayside Theater...Museum of the Shenandoah Valley and many other places.
