Local motorists who have been dealing with traffic and congestion may finally get some relief.
Efforts by VDOT to improve the flow of traffic across the state are now reaching the Winchester-Frederick County area.
VDOT officials held a news conference Monday afternoon to announce the completion of a traffic signal project.
Work began in March to improve signal timing on many major roads, including Route 50 west of Winchester and Route 11 near Kernstown.
Collaboration between Winchester and VDOT made the improvements possible.
"The traveling public doesn't really know whose [lights] are the city's, and whose are VDOT's," observed Winchester Public Works Director Perry Eisenach. "They just know that there's congestion and that the lights aren't necessarily synchronized. So I think this has been a great project, and we really appreciate the opportunity to work with VDOT on this."
The signal work cost around $120,000 for improvements on four corridors.
