Monday night's tribute to Dr. James Davis was just the beginning of an extended celebration for the Shenandoah University president.

University brass unveiled the new title of the former History and Tourism Center on Tuesday.

From this date forward, the center will be known as "Davis Hall."

The Board of Trustees chose the tourism building specifically because of the work Dr. Davis and area Congressman Frank Wolf poured in to making the site possible.

The ceremony included remarks from President Elect Dr. Tracy Fitzsimmons, as well as other friends and board members.

"The Shenandoah University Board of Trustees wanted to permanently honor Dr. James Davis for his 26 years of service," said Board Member James Wilkins Jr. "His name does not sit on any building on campus by his own choice. As long as he was president, he did not want any building named for him."

The board decided at its April meeting to dedicate the tourism center to Dr. Davis.

The Randolph Macon alum steps down from the presidency formally on June 30.

During the ceremony, Mayor Elizabeth Minor declared a proclamation- May 6, 2008, is officially "Dr. James Davis Day."
