It's been flying off the shelves.

Fifty Shades of Grey is one of the most popular books in the world.

But what you may not know, it's printed in our own backyard.

The success of the book has equaled some success for Berryville Graphics and the town.

“Our capacity on the press that has printed the most of this work is about 100,000 books a day,” says Barry Hockenberry, Director of Press Operations at Berryville Graphics. “On some days we've had to have this job running on more than one press.”

Hockenberry is talking about the hottest and most controversial books on the market.

Berryville Graphics is one of three main printers of the series that's flying off the shelves.

“It's represented probably 25% of our manufacturing volume here in Berryville over the last 3 months, so it's definitely been an interesting ride,” says Hockenberry.

When a book like this does this well, it means great things for the employees and the economy.

“Berryville Graphics is the largest employer in Clarke County so it's obviously a very huge part of our economy as well as in the county,” says Berryville Town Planner Christy Dunkle.

“When you get one of these that you know you can ride for a while, it's really helpful to everybody in the organization and helps people feel better about job security and all those things we all worry about these days,” says Hockenberry,

He says it's pretty cool that he feels at least partially responsible for what Fifty Shades of Grey has become.

“It's neat when a book becomes a phenomenon like this one has that, everywhere you go whether you're talking to relatives or involved in any other social activity, if the subject of books comes up at all someone will be talking about it,” says Hockenberry. “It's just neat to know that we're a part of that.”
