Local kids may be too young to travel the world, but Saturday at Jim Barnett Park, they got a chance to do just that.
It was an International Children's Festival event featuring an obstacle course!
Saturday's event was a fundraiser for the 4th annual International Children's Festival coming up in October.
Event planner Leslie Bowery says the obstacle course was an easy event to come up with, because she knew how much fun kids would have.
“It's been fantastic cause the kids get to come out and do something that's physical and we've also got 10 countries that are represented with the obstacles and we tried to bring a little essence of each country into the obstacle and they've been having a blast,” says Bowery.
The countries included Ireland, England and Australia, but it ended with an army crawl through a mudpit, which was an overwhelming participant favorite.
There was an educational aspect, too, which Bowery says just adds to the event's appeal.
“Each country's obstacle has the country's flag then something to represent the country,” says Bowery. “Puerto Rico we have the flag we have the rain forest in the mud pit, in England we have show jumping and a tea set, so we've tried to incorporate a little bit into each event.”
Other countries featured in the event include Zimbabwe, Greece, Egypt, Italy and China.
