In light of recent staph infection outbreaks in the region, one area school is sparing no efforts to protect its students.

The Clarke County school system has hired a local company to sanitize all of its school buses, as well as the weight room and training facilities at Clarke County High School.

The company, GearClean, is run by Winchester Town Council member Art Major.

GearClean employs a cutting-edge technology to guard against the spread of staph infection.

"What happens is this treatment provides a surface, and its spikes puncture the nucleus of single-cell organisms and kill them," said Major. "So it's a physical kill, as opposed to killing them with chemicals."

MRSA is a highly serious form of staph infection which is resistant to penicillin.
