The hostage crisis in New Hampshire at Hillary Clinton's campaign headquarters last week, has many in our nation on alert.

However, local authorities in "your community" are making sure they're prepared during such an event.

Agencies from around the country met at the Frederick County Public Safety Building for advanced hostage negotiation training.

Students were put in real-life situations.

One exercise had students simulating a hostage situation.

"The police have to keep the streets safe, keep the people safe. And when people get in crisis they get stuck. You know, our solution is to get them safely out. We don't necessarily want to hurt them," said student Jim Cavanaugh.

"Everything we learn helps us do a better job on the telephone with someone that's in some sort of crisis or holding hostages. So, there's really no end to the learning curve. Just more tools to add to our tool box," said instructor, Bill Hogewood.

The hostage training runs through Thursday and is hosted by Hammer Consulting a firm that specializes in dealing with crisis situations.
