Board games, once quite popular in the 1970s, have been reportedly on the come back the last few years.

The Discovery Museum, riding on that popularity wave, held a "game day" on Saturday as a part of National Game Week.

Games such as Life, Dominoes and Battleship were spread out on tables for children of various ages to enjoy.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that kids two and older have no more than one to two hours of "screen" time a day.

Board games are a great way to get kids to engage socially- without electricity.

And some believe games such as chess help kids learn important problem solving skills.

"It kind of parallels life where say you have a challenge or a problem that a lot of times the solution has to take three or four steps. So it gets you in that practice of thinking through where just not one step solves a problem, but you might just take three, or four, or five steps to get there," said Jim Moyer who teaches kids how to play chess and other "strategic" games.

Board games are also relatively inexpensive.

Most run under twenty dollars.
