Sweet Summer!

Well... Summer is here, which means that the 2007-2008 High School sports year, has officially come to an end. Here are a few moments that I'll remember from the school year that was.

Sherando vs James Wood Football... first round playoffs:

Sherando comes from behind in the 4th quarter to win 21-14 at home. Derek Crosen makes the game-winning TD catch, and the game-saving tackle to send the Warriors through to the next round.

Millbrook State Champs!

Led by Erick Green the Millbrook Pioneers win the Group AA state basketball championship. Millbrook beat Brunswick in the final, getting revenge against the same team that knocked them out of last year's quarterfinal round.

Football Signing Day

In perhaps the busiest and most successful signing day this area has ever seen. 6 prospects committed to play Division 1 ball. A couple months later, Sherando QB Ross Metheny verbally committed to the University of Virginia, yet another indication that the quality of football here has never been better.

Saying Goodbye

The area said farewell to a pair of great football coaches, as Walter Barr (James Wood) and Glenn Proctor(Strasburg) retired. Proctor won his 300th game this fall with the Rams, and Walter Barr took the Colonels to their first playoff appearance in 25 years.

Young and Old

Last Friday, we did a story on the "Wacky Olympics" (aka field day) at Bass Hoover Elementary School in Stephens City and saw a bunch of future athletic stars. A couple days later, we went to Washington DC to hang out with James Wood graduate Devon McTavish, who is now a professional soccer player with DC United of Major League Soccer. We cover it all here at TV3!!!

It's been a great year and with the Valley League season heating up... we plan on going strong throughout the Summer. Thanks for watching and if you've got any good summer story ideas, LET US KNOW!!! We are always looking for something to do!
